Evergreen Solar, Devens, Massachusetts is seeking a Noise Control Engineer.  Evergreen Solar began its Devens site in March 2009.   Due to  low compliance limits and high background sound levels produced by non-Evergreen sources, a long-term monitoring system has been installed on its site.  This system measures sound levels close to facility equipment that produces sound.  Data collected using this system is subject to close scrutiny by an outside agency with rapid response required in both reporting on the source or sources of sound that might be causing limits to be exceeded and in implementing noise controls if required.  Evergreen desires to mainatain compliance in addition to to maintaining good relations with the community.

• Measurement of sound and vibration inside and outside buildings, and sometimes in places requiring ladder climbing or other difficult access. 
• Preparation of data submissions and other information to the DEC and/or other authorities as required by Evergreen staff.
• Attendance at meetings with DEC or other authority and the public. 
• Assistance in preparing presentation materials to the public.
• Analysis and computer processing of field data.
• Work with Microsoft Excel and Word, with AutoCAD, and with CadnaA or SoundPlan.
• Coordination with other Evergreen facility operations staff as needed to understand and implement controls recommendations.
• Development of noise and vibration control recommendations for heavy industrial equipment.
• Preparation of reports including sketches explaining recommendations.
• Measurement and analysis of environmental sound propagation effects. 

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering plus 5 years experience in noise control engineering or Masters Degree in Engineering (five courses in sound and vibration as a minimum).
• Professional society membership and participation: Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE), Acoustical Society of America (ASA) (Technical Committee on Noise-TCN)
